SOUTH AFRICAN STARS HELP CELEBRATE ICC DIVERSITY DAY

Leading members of the South African men’s and women’s team visited a school in Sandton, Johannesburg on Thursday as part of the build-up to the ICC Diversity Day celebrations.

AB De Villers, Hashim Amla and Cri-Zelda Brits gave a coaching session to a talented group of pupils.

They then presented pupils with equipment and signed merchandise from Cricket South Africa and the ICC, before unveiling a banner celebrating the diversity of the game.

“One of the joys of cricket has been the opportunity to travel to many countries. Certainly, if travel is embraced with an open mind, the experience and understanding about the diverse cultures locally and abroad will open the heart and mind to a better understanding of ourselves and the world we live in,” said Hashim Amla.

ICC Diversity Day, which was held for the first time last year during the ICC World Twenty20 2007, will take place on 20 November 2008 to coincide with a busy programme of fixtures in the international cricket calendar.

The day, which is set to become an annual feature in the cricket calendar, will see a variety of activities around the world that celebrate the diversity of the sport.
