Cricketlogic.blogspot.com wonders whether a stint in India’s domestic competition, Duleep Trophy, would’ve done any good to Monty Panesar.
The lanky spinner, ignored for the ODI series vs New Zealand, traveled with the England Lions team to India. However, the visitors’ trip was cut short after they crashed to a 9-wicket defeat vs the West Zone. The 25-year-old took a haul of five wickets from two outings with best figures of 3/106 and an average of 38.80.
Now, whether these figures would’ve given a boost to Monty’s confidence will only be known in the coming weeks when he takes on the Kiwis on their home turf in completely different conditions next month.
However, Monty, am sure you would’ve enjoyed the bright sunshine in western India. Just like your mate Andrew Flintoff, who dropped in the England Lions dressing room midway through India tour for a few net sessions, presumably to escape the chill and gloomy weather back home!
