SHOWING LIVE: IPL-3 VS NEWS MEDIA

Thanks to the ongoing tussle between the IPL and NBA (News Broadcast Association), there i s complete lull before the start of season-3 in India. Lull before the proverbial storm? Maybe. But as long it stays like that, ENJOY IT.

Indian TV channels have a habit of overdoing it when it comes to cricket. And as has been witnessed in the past two seasons, the goose that lays the golden egg has been butchered endlessley and served to the Indian audiences right from breakfast at 6 till dinner at 12. The six hours left in between are reserved for repeat telecast.

But, is the Indian media solely responsible for the current imbroglio?

Shouldn't the self-styled czar' of IPL Lalit Modi be taught a lesson for improper handling of serious issues whether it is the players' security or the never-ending war with media? Yes, he should be. Modi seems to have forgotton - or is too foolish to ignore - that it was media which made his IPL a hit worldwide and him a star overnight.

Now, sitting on mounting piles of US dollars (the IPL bosses stopped talking in Indian rupees ages ago), the IPL boss is bold enough to play 'who-blinks-first' game with not just the media but also several international cricketers time and again.

Well, whatever the outcome is, the West Indies Cricket and its players are the most (un)happy lot at the turn of events - their series with Zimbabwe is getting more eyeballs than ever before!
