It is wrong to think that only those players who are not selected in the national squad get affected by Cricket South Africa's Transformation Policy. Charl Langeveldt has, in fact, proved that there is much, much more to it... Yes, even if you make it to the touring party. The 33-year-old fast bowler has pulled out of the Proteas' three-Test tour to India saying that he is not in the right frame of mind after all the controversy over the selection of team.
"Langeveldt wanted to withdraw from the tour to India so that he can consider his international future in the right frame of mind. He said that the public controversy over the selection of the Proteas team to tour India had upset him to the extent that he would not be in the right frame of mind to tour India and do his best for the Proteas. He wanted to use this time instead to consider his future in international cricket in a cool and calm manner," said Cricket South Africa in a media release.
Thanks to CSA’s Transformation Policy, which states that there must be 6 players of colour in a squad of 14 and 7 in a 15-member team, Langeveldt was picked ahead of Andre Nel in the squad for India tour. It seems that public furore and rumours of Nel leaving South Africa did no good to Langeveldt's confidence, something which is now quite visible.
